Overcome - Easter  |  04/20/25

Study questions

1.  Key Takeaways:

  • Sin is a universal human problem that separates us from God.
  • Jesus overcame the power of sin and death through His sacrifice on the cross and resurrection.
  • Through faith in Jesus, we can experience forgiveness and overcome the power of sin in our lives.
  • Jesus is the only way to God and offers us a full, meaningful life.

Discussion Questions:

  1. What does "overcoming" mean to you in your personal life?  Share an example of a time you overcame a significant challenge?
  2. We see evidence of sin all around us.   What examples of brokenness do you observe in society and in your own life?
  3. How does the idea that "we've all sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23) challenge or comfort you?
  4. Several stories were shared of people overcoming various struggles through their faith in Jesus.  Which story resonated with you the most and why?  What has your relationship with Jesus enabled you to overcome?
  5. Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me" (John 14:6).  How would you explain this statement to someone who believes there are many ways to God?
  6. Being a Christian isn't about being religious but about living with God and living life the way He intended.  How does this perspective change your view of faith and following Jesus?
  7. What area of your life do you feel needs "overcoming"?  How might your faith in Jesus help you address this challenge?

Practical Applications:

  • Identify one specific sin or struggle in your life that you want to overcome.  Commit to praying about it daily this week and share with the group next time how God worked in that area.
  • Practice sharing your testimony of how Jesus has helped you overcome challenges in your life.  Take turns in pairs telling your story in 2-3 minutes.
  • Choose one person in your life who doesn't know Jesus and commit to praying for an opportunity to share with them how faith in Jesus has changed your life.
  • Memorize Romans 6:23 together: "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
  • Thank God for the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ.  Ask for His power to overcome the sin or struggle in your life you've identified (see above), and for opportunities to share the hope of the gospel with others.
